Welcome to the New Great Neck Public Schools

Food and Nutrition Services Site!

*PRODUCT AVAILABLITY ALERT*

At this time, many of our food and beverage suppliers are struggling with production, supply chain challenges and labor shortages. We are diligently working to minimize product shortages whenever and wherever possible. On occasion, we may encounter a short supply of a particular product and may need to substitute with a similar item on the menu.

We will continue our focus on quality with each of these decisions and sincerely appreciate your understanding, flexibility and patience.

Great Education and Great Nutrition go hand in hand in Great Neck!

The Great Neck Public Schools participate in the USDA's National School Lunch Program and provide nutritionally balanced meals to our students. Children need healthy meals to learn, which is why we offer healthy meals to our students every school day.

Through recent Federal and State programs, the GNPS Food and Nutrition Department provides compliant lunch meals at NO COST to all students for the 2021-2022 school year!  There will continue to be a small a la carte fee for some of the options that we offer. ($1.35 at the Pre-K and Elementary level for certain Kosher meals and $1.60 at the Middle School and the High School levels for the Boars Head products, Kosher pizza, Kosher chicken nugget and bagel meals).

Your children may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Those applications are available by clicking the "Meal Applications" icon to the left of this text.

Access the Elementary and Secondary lunch menus by clicking on "Menus" in the above blue bar.

Payments to your child's account can be made by creating a My School Bucks account. To access My School Bucks, please click on the icon on the upper right side of this page.

FAQ’S Regarding School Lunch

Do I need to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Application to receive free meals?   No, families do not need to fill out the application to receive free meals this year.  HOWEVER, for those families of modest means or who are still struggling to provide food for their family, we encourage you to continue to submit the Free & Reduced Applications. This information is kept confidential unless you choose to allow us to share it with others. Qualifying may allow a family to be eligible for other programs. All families who usually fill out the paper applications should fill them out again. Those families already on SNAP or Medicaid do not need to submit any paperwork since your information is already in our system.

Where will my child eat lunch? What are the social distancing practices? Elementary students will be eating lunch in their classrooms. Students can bring lunch daily or order lunch from the cafeteria. Elementary teachers will ask the students in the morning who is receiving lunch from the cafeteria and who has brought lunch. They will record the appropriate lunch and submit that to the kitchen for processing. Middle School and High School students will pick up meals from the cafeteria serving line and eat in designated areas created to social distance. Student will use their school ID cards to access their lunch account to pay for meals.

What happens if my child forgets their lunch or did not pre-order?  No worries, we will always provide the appropriate meal if any student does not have lunch, regardless of grade.

How will my child make a choice for the lunch of the day?  Our menus are posted on the GNPS website. Please review the menu and options with your child.

Will snacks be available for purchase?  A limited a la carte menu will be available daily at the Middle School and the High School. Snacks are not included with the free meals, so students need to have money on their “MySchoolBucks” account to pay with student ID card. Please refrain from using cash.

What is “MySchoolBucks”?  Is there a user fee for MySchoolBucks? Payments can be made on the secure online payment portal, MySchool Bucks.  MySchoolBucks provides a quick and easy way to add money to your student’s meal account using a credit/debit card or an electronic check.  The fee for each transaction is $2.75. This service allows you to deposit money directly into your child’s meal account, view balance and purchase information for the past ninety days. Students will need money in their accounts to purchase a la carte food items.
